Hypnap Story

Hypnap Co-founder Chloe Hill was on an 18 hour flight to Singapore in the summer of 2012 when she got the idea for the TruRest. Never having the ability to sleep on an airplane or sitting up she resorted to leaning her head against the seat in front of her or resting her head on her folded arms on the tray table but found little comfort and relief. However she recognized benefit in the concept of leaning forward. She wanted something that supported and suspended her upper torso in the forward leaning face down position while seated. It would have to be lightweight and portable so she could take it on flights. When she searched the market for a travel sleep aid of this sort she found nothing. In wanting to solve this problem for herself and others she decided to create it herself.

A former art teacher with a design background, she sketched ideas, assembled and tested prototypes, filed for patents, consulted with physicians, conducted research, and worked with an industrial designer to develop the product. Along the way, she joined forces with her friend and business partner Darryl Yang, a former computer programmer and fellow avid traveler, and together they launched the company Hypnap around the product. The company’s name and logo is inspired by Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep.
